"La que volvió por su amor", conocida también como La angustia de vivir, es una película de 1954 escrita y dirigida por George Seaton y basada en una obra de Clifford Odets del mismo nombre. La película gira en torno al esfuerzo de un actor ex-alcohólico por aprovechar la última oportunidad que le es ofrecida para resucitar su carrera. Está protagonizada por Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly y William Holden en sus papeles principales. La película recibió dos Oscars: al mejor guion adaptado ( Seaton ) y a la mejor actriz (Grace Kelly). Participó en el Festival de Cannes de 1955 . Grace Kelly ganó el Oscar a la mejor actriz por éste papel , que anteriormente la había valido su primer premio Tony a Uta Hagen en la versión teatral en Broadway . El papel , una despedida poco glamorosa para Kelly , era el de la paciente y sufridora esposa de un actor alcohólico . El Oscar fue una gran sorpresa , ya que la mayoría de la crítica y la prensa apostaban por la interpretación de Judy Garland en " Ha nacido una estrella " . La NBC incluso envió un equipo de televisión a la habitación del Hospital donde Garland se recuperaba del nacimiento de su hijo con objeto de realizar una entrevista en directo cuando le diesen la noticia de que había ganado el Oscar . Cuando Groucho Marx se enteró de que el premio se lo había llevado Grace , le envió a Judy un telegrama que decía que " era el mayor robo desde el del edificio Brinks " Dada la época en que se rodó , ésta película es notable por sus diálogos realistas y sinceros y por tocar con franqueza los daños colaterales del alcoholismo y de la misoginia post-divorcio .

The Country Girl is a 1954 American drama film directed by George Seaton and starring Bing Crosby, Grace Kelly, and William Holden. Adapted by George Seaton from Clifford Odets' 1950 play of the same name, the film is about an alcoholic has-been actor struggling with the one last chance he's been given to resurrect his career. Seaton won the Academy Award for Best Writing, Adapted Screenplay. It was entered in the 1955 Cannes Film Festival. Kelly won the Oscar for Best Actress for the role, which previously had earned Uta Hagen her first Tony Award in the play's original Broadway production. The role, a non-glamorous departure for Kelly, was as the alcoholic actor's long-suffering wife. The win was a huge surprise, as most critics and people in the press felt that Judy Garland would win for A Star Is Born. NBC even sent a camera crew to Garland's hospital room, where she was recuperating from the birth of her son, in order to conduct a live interview with her if she won. The win by Kelly instead famously prompted Groucho Marx to send Garland a telegram stating it was "the biggest robbery since Brinks." Given the period of its production, the film is notable for its realistic, frank dialogue and honest treatments of the surreptitious side of alcoholism and post-divorce misogyny.
