En matemáticas, una progresión aritmética es una sucesión de números tales que la diferencia de dos términos sucesivos cualesquiera de la secuencia es una constante, cantidad llamada «diferencia de la progresión», «diferencia» o incluso «distancia». Por ejemplo, la sucesión matemática 3, 5, 7, 9,… es una progresión aritmética de diferencia constante 2, así como 5, 2, −1, −4,… es una progresión aritmética de diferencia constante −3.

The sum of a finite arithmetic progression is called an arithmetic series. The behavior of the arithmetic progression depends on the common difference d. If the common difference is: \n* Positive, then the members (terms) will grow towards positive infinity. \n* Negative, then the members (terms) will grow towards negative infinity.
