La región paleártica o paleoártica es una de las ocho ecozonas que dividen la superficie terrestre. De hecho, es la de mayor tamaño. La región paleártica incluye Europa, Asia al norte del Himalaya, África septentrional y las zonas norte y central de la península arábiga. Esta denominación se emplea ampliamente en ecología, botánica y zoología y biogeografía su superficie es aproximadamente de 54 100 000 km cuadrados. Los biomas presentes en esta región, aproximadamente de norte a sur, son: tundra, taiga, bosque templado de coníferas, bosque templado de frondosas, chaparral y bosque mediterráneo, pradera, estepa y desierto.

The Palearctic or Palaearctic is the largest of the eight biogeographic realms constituting the Earth's surface. It consists of Europe, Asia north of the Himalaya foothills, northern Africa, and the northern and central parts of the Arabian Peninsula. The Palearctic realm comprises the smaller terrestrial ecoregions of the European Siberian; the Mediterranean Basin; the Sahara and Arabian Deserts; Western and Central Asian; and East Asia. The Palaearctic realm also has numerous rivers and lakes, forming several freshwater ecoregions. Some of the rivers were the source of water for the earliest recorded civilizations that used irrigation methods.
