Las profecías de una Segunda Venida son varias y están presentes en muchas religiones y culturas. Esta creencia está fuertemente ligada a la creencia en Dios, en una visión providencialista de la Historia (que existe un plan divino para el devenir de la humanidad, pero que no abarca todos los aspectos de la vida humana, puesto que para ello existe el libre albedrío) y la creencia en profetas, a veces llamados mensajeros o manifestaciones, quienes tienen un nivel de divinidad o santidad o cercanía a Dios que les permite acceder a lo que sucederá en el futuro. Casi todas las tradiciones religiosas tienen una forma de profecía del regreso de una de estas figuras, o la venida de una nueva figura.

The Second Coming (sometimes called the Second Advent or the Parousia) is primarily a Christian concept regarding a future return of Jesus to Earth after his "first coming" and ascension to heaven about two thousand years ago. The belief is based on messianic prophecies found in the canonical gospels and is part of most Christian eschatologies. Views about the nature of Jesus' Second Coming vary among Christian denominations and among individual Christians. Most English versions of the Nicene Creed include the following statements:"...he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. ... We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come."
