老いも若きも、金持ちも貧乏人も、そろって答えました。民主党員も共和党員も、黒人も白人も、ヒスパニックもアジア人もアメリカ先住民も、ゲイもストレートも、障害者も障害のない人たちも。アメリカ人はみんなして、答えを出しました。アメリカは今夜、世界中にメッセージを発したのです。私たちはただ単に個人がバラバラに集まっている国だったこともなければ、単なる赤い州と青い州の寄せ集めだったこともないと。私たちは今も、そしてこれから先もずっと、すべての州が一致団結したアメリカ合衆国なのです。
It's the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Hispanic, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled. Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been just a collection of individuals or a collection of red states and blue states. We are, and always will be, the United States of America.
共和党の旗を掲げて初めてホワイトハウス入りしたのは、この州の人でした。そのことを思い出しましょう。共和党とは、自助自立に個人の自由、そして国の統一という価値観を掲げて作られた政党です。そうした価値は、私たち全員が共有するものです。そして民主党は確かに今夜、大きな勝利を獲得しましたが、私たちはいささか謙虚に、そして決意を持って、この国の前進を阻んでいた分断を癒すつもりです。
Let's remember that it was a man from this state who first carried the banner of the Republican Party to the White House, a party founded on the values of self-reliance and individual liberty and national unity. Those are values that we all share. And while the Democratic Party has won a great victory tonight, we do so with a measure of humility and determination to heal the divides that have held back our progress.
