Baekje (hangul: 백제, hanja: 百濟, McCune-Reischauer: Paekche)? fue un reino situado al suroeste de la península de Corea. Era uno de los Tres Reinos de Corea, junto a Silla y Koguryŏ. Baekje reivindicaba ser el reino heredero de Buyeo, un estado establecido en la región actual de Manchuria en la época de la caída de Gojoseon. Por otra parte, Koguryŏ también reivindicaba ser descendiente de Buyeo, por lo que anexionó los territorios manchurianos a su reino. Baekje fue fundado por Onjo, hijo de Jumong (fundador de Goguryeo) alrededor de lo que actualmente es Seúl. En su época de esplendor en el siglo IV, Baekje controlaba la mayor parte del este de la península de Corea, expandiendo su reinado por el norte más allá de Pyongyang. Fue derrotado por la alianza entre Silla y la dinastía Tang en el año 660, pasando entonces a formar parte del reino unificado de Silla.

Baekje or Paekche (Hangul: 백제; hanja: 百濟; RR: Pekje, Korean pronunciation: [pɛktɕ͈e]) (18 BC – 660 AD) was a kingdom located in southwest Korea. It was one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, together with Goguryeo and Silla. Baekje was founded by Onjo, the third son of Goguryeo's founder Jumong and So Seo-no, at Wiryeseong (present-day southern Seoul). Baekje, like Goguryeo, claimed to succeed Buyeo, a state established in present-day Manchuria around the time of Gojoseon's fall. Baekje alternately battled and allied with Goguryeo and Silla as the three kingdoms expanded control over the peninsula. At its peak in the 4th century, Baekje controlled most of the western Korean peninsula, as far north as Pyongyang, and may have even held territories in China, such as in Liaoxi, though this view is controversial. It became a significant regional sea power, with political and trade relations with China and Japan. Baekje was a great maritime power; its nautical skill, which made it the Phoenicia of East Asia, was instrumental in the dissemination of Buddhism throughout East Asia and continental culture to Japan. In 660 it was defeated, by an alliance of Silla and the Chinese Tang Dynasty, and submitted to Unified Silla.
