Mount Tanigawa (谷川岳 Tanigawa-dake) is a 1,977m mountain on the border of Gunma Prefecture and Niigata Prefecture in Japan. It is one of the 100 famous mountains in Japan. As of December 2014, since its initial exploration and route-finding in the early 1930s, a total of 805 people have died on Tanigawa-dake. (Compare with the over 200 people who have died on Mt. Everest over a comparable period).
