    Shimabara (島原市 Shimabara-shi) is a city located on the north-eastern tip of the Shimabara Peninsula, facing Ariake Bay in the east and Mount Unzen (including Fugendake) in the west, in Nagasaki Prefecture, Kyushu, Japan. As of January 1, 2009, the city has an estimated population of 48,461 and a population density of 585 persons per km². The total area is 82.77 km².
