    Tenkara fly fishing (Japanese: テンカラ, literally: "from heaven", or "from the skies") is a traditional type of fishing practiced in Japan that should not be confused with fly fishing. Primarily used for mountain stream trout fishing, tenkara is one of the most popular methods of angling among fresh-water mountain anglers in Japan Tenkara has been virtually unknown outside Japan until the first company to introduce and popularize tenkara outside Japan, Tenkara USA, was founded in April 2009 in San Francisco, California. However, new companies including Tenkara Rod Co., Temple Fork Outfitters, Wetfly Back Country,Dragontail Tenkara,Tenkara Tanuki now offer additional rods to suit the needs of different anglers.
